IIT Dharwad Signs MoU with Shilpa Biologicals, Dharwad to Strengthen Industry-Academia Collaboration

The Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad (IIT Dharwad) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shilpa Biologicals, Dharwad, on 21 January 2026, marking a significant step toward strengthening industry-academia collaboration in the areas of biosciences, biotechnology, chemical engineering, and allied disciplines.
The MoU was formally signed in the presence of senior representatives from both institutions. Representing Shilpa Biologicals, the signatories and participants included Dr. Sridevi Khambhampaty, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Amal Sasidharan, Chief Manager- Human Resources, and Mr. Aravinda Narayana V, Assistant Manager- CEO Office.


The IIT Dharwad delegation was led by Prof. Venkappayya R. Desai, Director, IIT Dharwad, and included Prof. Koteswararao Kondepu, Dean (Research and Development), Prof. Swanand Marathe, Head, Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering (BSBE), Prof. Sudhanshu Kumar Shukla (BSBE), Prof. Surya Pratap Singh (BSBE), Prof. Badri Nath Dubey (BSBE), Prof. Satyapriya Gupta (Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering), and Prof. C. Ravikumar (Department of Chemical Engineering).
The aim of the MoU is to establish a long-term collaborative framework to promote joint research and development, technology translation, and innovation-driven solutions addressing real-world industrial challenges. The partnership seeks to bridge academic research and industrial application by leveraging IIT Dharwad’s research expertise and Shilpa Biologicals’ industrial capabilities.
The collaboration will facilitate joint research projects, student internships, faculty-industry interactions, skill development programs, and supervision of research scholars. It also aims to support innovation in biopharmaceutical processes, sustainable biomanufacturing, and advanced biotechnological solutions, contributing to national priorities in healthcare and technology-driven growth. The MoU is expected to create meaningful opportunities for students, researchers, and industry professionals, while strengthening the regional and national innovation landscape.
