Mr. Debashis Biswas, PhD scholar from the Department of HEART, working under the supervision of Prof Jolly Thomas, presented his paper titled ‘Rethinking Free Will through Turing’s Vision of Machine Intelligence’ at the Centenary Session 2025 of the Indian Philosophical Congress, organised by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
In this paper, he attempts to show how the concept of machine intelligence evolved through the work of Alan Turing, how Turing’s arguments align with philosophical perspectives, and how they later connect with the debates on free will and determinism.
